Meeting Minutes/February 11th, 2010

The Southland Car Club met at the Parkside Cafe' for our February Meet. We had 35 members present, and four visitors totaling 39. After our meal, President Phil Moody called meeting to order.

Minutes of our last meeting were read by Secretary, Jo Anne Hair. They were accepted as read.

Treasury report was given by Treasurer, David Wiley.

We then welcomed our visitors (canidates for membership:
David & Misty Hawk and daughter Gabbie. (David is the son of Richard Hawk). We also welcomed Al Larivee.) Hopefully these will join the club.

New Business:

We discussed having a car show in memory of Deacon Jones, and a motion was made & seconded to do this. All was in favor. We just need to set a date for this. Phil is checking into this.

Car displays & shows were announced:

February 12th, 2010----Car show at Dorton Arena, Raleigh.
March 6th, 2010----Car Show at West Johnston High School.
April 17th, 2010----Selma Car Classics.
May 2nd, 2010---Ham & Yam Display.
November 20th, 2010----Car Club Reunion at Milestone in Dunn.

Discussion on getting sides for carport and gravel----motion was made, seconded and all favored to do this.

Discussion was brought up about doing a raffle at the Selma Classics by selling tickets with three items listed for prizes.
We voted to pay David Buchanan $100.00 for a Stop-Light as our 1st place prize--2nd prize is a '57 Black Hard-top Chevy Telephone, (lights up & horn blows when phone rings)--donated by Tom Britt--Third prize---Deer Print, Couch Quilt & Pillow Set---donated by Jo Anne Hair. Jo Anne will make tickets and pass out at next meet, each member to try to sell 25 tickets or more. We will sell at Selma Car Show. Drawing will be April 17th at the car show.
We then discussed the printer issues---we decided to e-mail those that have e-mail addresses, and mail the others to see how much we would save.

Name tag discussion resulted in keeping the ones we now have and when new ones are made, we leave off the "Legends".

Car Show Discussion:
We are working on finding a place in the Smithfield area to have a car show in the near future. We need sponsors, etc. when we get a place and time.

Phil passed out sheets with committees: Please look at these and if you choose not to be on the committee, please let Phil know.

A new Application sheet was passed out--please see that these are filled out and gotten back to Jo Anne so that we can have all information updated.

Ballots were given out for members to choose a "Sweetheart Couple of the Year". Winners of this was a tie: Wayne & Linda Tyson / Carl & Jo Anne Hair. A gift was presented.

We then had our 50/50 drawing with Rick Becker (who had already left the scene) being our winner of $36.00.
