The Southland Car Club met at the Parkside Cafe' for our July Meet. We had 31 members
present, and 7 visitors totaling 38. After our meal, President Phil Moody called meeting to order.
Minutes of our last meeting were read by Secretary, Jo Anne Hair. Treasury report was given by Treasurer, David
Wiley. Both were approved as read. We then welcomed our new members and visitors: Tom Britt's Grandson, Adam, visiting with Tom. Al Larivee's Son, Corey, visiting with Al. Jim & Vicki
Lassiter (New Members from May) Donald & Cathy Webb of Four Oaks (New Members, not present) joined in June. Danny
Hinnant (New Member) of Selma joined at this meet, July. Larry & Beverly Anderson (Prospective Members) of Princeton,
they have a 1971 Chevy pickup. JJ & Angie Creech (Prospective Members) of Four Oaks, they have a 1970 Chevelle.
As you can see our club is really growing. We are really happy to have all of these folks with us tonight
and hope they feel welcome and have enough fun that they want to come back and be with us again real often. So, members,
make them feel welcome.
Phyllis reported on the sick: Cards were sent to Ann Jackson, who is recovering at
Liberty Commons in Benson due to her other knee surgery, Junior Faircloth (Jo Anne's Brother), who is still
undergoing cancer treatment, and Maso Sapp, as he had been in the hospital with some heart problems. Please keep
these in your prayers.
Car Show plans are still in process. We still need sponsors and items for door prizes or
goody bags. If you can help in this area, please let us know. At the car show, we will have trophies for the Top 50 cars and
several special trophy awards along with Shelton's choice award. Each entrant will get a packet with a dash plaque and
other items in it. Trophies and dash plaques are being made.
Shirts & caps are still availabe, if you would
like to order, please see Harvey Eubanks or Ray Ferland.
Fran stated that she & Ray would be on vacation a
few weeks, so there would not be a newsletter for August. I guess we'll have to let her slide this time. Fran really does
a great job with the newsletter and we really appreciate her, and Ray too for putting up with her while she is assisting us.
Thanks, to you both and have a GREAT vacation.
There will be a board meeting July 22nd at 7:00 p.m. at the
home of Carl & Jo Anne Hair.
New Business:
It was suggested that we sell bottled water at
car show. A sheet was sent around for those that would donate a case of water. Coolers & ice are also needed.
We also need advertisement in newspaper & radio support for this car show.
Zaxby's would like for us
to have another car display, this has been set for July 24th, 2010, so please make plans to be there if possible. This
will be $300.00 for the club, also driver's will get free lunch.
Rick & Peg Becker will be making magnetic
signs to put on each side of your car (DO NOT TOUCH) if you'd like one. Club will pay for cost of materials.
Jo Anne Hair is making Identification Cards to put in windshield of cars.
A motion was made to let club members
participate in 50/50 raffle at car show. Motion was seconded and we had a majority vote to do this.
We then had
our 50/50 drawing with Russell Evans being our winner of $34.50. Congratulations Russell.
