History of Our Club

The Southland Car Club was organized in October of 1988 when a group of people met at the Grape Festival at the Southland Winery and Harvey Eubanks said, "Let's start a car club." They had nine members to join and some are still active today. The club had its first car show in 1990 at the Carolina Pottery in Smithfield, NC and registered 204 cars. Monies from this show and shows thereafter has been donated to neighboring charity organizations.

An endowment of $10,000 was set up at Johnston Community College and has grown to $18,000. This money has come directly from the hard work of the club and the interest has earned enough to give a student a $500 scholarship each year. The first check was issued in June 1995. If the interest wasn't as much as $500, the club made up the difference, but last year it earned enough for 3 scholarships of $500 each. The High School Scholarships were set up in 2004. A $500 scholarship is to be given to one of the six high schools in the county each year. We do this in rotation and the schools are chosen alphabetically.

About Our Club:

The purpose of our club is to preserve and restore Antique, Classic or Special Interest vechicles, fellowship and enjoy it's members and the betterment of the community we serve.
Our Club meets once a month to socialize, eat and just have a great time  We participate in several car shows in and around Johnston County. We also have a car show at least once during the year. Over the years the car club has given unmeasurable enjoyment to it's members and participants and spectators of the car shows, but in addition and probably most importantly is its contributions to the community. We make contributions to neighboring Rescue Squads, Relay for Life (Cancer), College Scholarships, High School Scholarships and neighbors in need. We have also contributed to the American Red Cross, Church Memorials, SPCA, Hospice, Tsunami, USO & RDU. From 1999--2008 the club made a total of $15,122.00 worth of Contributions to the community.
